There are many things I love, and many more I love doing! I’m at my happiest when creating something, that might be a new chocolate flavour, a class, an easier or more efficient way to do a chore: figuring something out or making something new is often the best thing about my day.
Born and raised in Scotland, I have a deep respect and love for my homeland. While I’m one of those Scots who moved away, I still consider it home and feel the tug of a wind swept moor or a dark still loch deep in my soul. As I get older I feel home more strongly and am excited to return in 2018 to teach by Loch Awe.
I have lived in England, the US and now in Costa Rica where I live on a beautiful organic farm with my partner and my dogs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, quail and fish. Alongside an enormous number of monkeys, sloths, watusi and all manner of creatures. Most of the farm is rainforest, and I feel very blessed to be able to walk in the jungle every day.
I love to gather and share information: I’ve been a teacher for 22 years and it continues to delight me when I see a light go on in someone’s eyes. We are always in the process of learning: whether that be a new fact, or a processing of emotions, or finding a better way to do something, learning keeps us motivated and interested in life. And to be part of someone’s learning, that’s a real gift.
If anyone had told me even 10 years ago I’d become a chocolate maker I would have laughed in disbelief, but here I am, making about 1,000 bars of chocolate a month. We have a stall at the local farmers’ market where we sell produce from the farm, jams and jellies, butters, dried fruit and nuts, candies and chocolate bars. My bars are made with unroasted cacao and many, many flavors. All raw, organic and vegan! I also sell soap and body products I make on the farm.
It’s a busy life, but a good one.
I’m so glad you’ve taken the time out of your busy life to read this and perhaps some other parts of this site. I hope you find something that interests you!
